Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026

This policy explains what information oldenera.gg (the "Site") handles when you visit it, and what we do with it. The short version: the Site has no user accounts of its own (players can sign in with Steam only to manage their profile), sets no tracking cookies, shows no advertising, and sells nothing. It processes the in-game names and results that the game itself publishes on its ranked leaderboards, and, from players who turn it on in the OldenEra Companion, the games they upload, which it publishes as match reports and player profiles.

1. Who we are

The Site is an independent, fan-made project run by its operator, who is the controller of any personal data described here. You can reach us at contact@oldenera.gg. See also About OldenEra.gg.

2. Information we process when you visit

  • Server logs.Like every website, our hosting provider records technical details of each request — IP address, the page requested, the time, the browser's user agent and the referring page. We use them to keep the Site running, to find and fix errors, and to protect it against abuse. They are kept for a short period and then deleted.
  • Rate limiting. Our public endpoints count requests per IP address for a minute at a time so no single client can overload them. The count is discarded as it expires; it is not combined with anything else.
  • Aggregated analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views and referrers without cookies and without identifying individual visitors. It does not track you across other sites.
  • Cookies. The public Site sets no cookies. Session cookies exist only for people who sign in: the Site's own staff on the administration pages; players who open the games their OldenEra Companion uploaded (it names their companion install); and players who sign in with Steam to manage their profile (it holds a keyed hash of their Steam id, with a ten-minute companion cookie while the sign-in is under way). Each lapses after 30 days at most, and none is set for other visitors. Your language is part of the address you visit, not a stored preference.

3. Player names and competitive records

The ladder shows in-game player names, avatars, ranks, ratings and match results. This information is published by the game on its own ranked leaderboards and match histories, where every player can see it; we collect, de-duplicate and present it as community statistics. We do not know who is behind a name, and we do not link names to any other data about a person.

We process this on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing competitive statistics to the game's community, which we believe players reasonably expect of a public ranked ladder. If you are a player and would prefer that your name did not appear here, or a record about you is wrong, write to contact@oldenera.gg. We will consider every reasonable request and act on it unless a legal obligation prevents us.

The daily Meta Pulse report is drafted by an automated system from the day's ladder statistics, which include player names as they appear on the leaderboard. That data is sent to the provider of the language model used to write the draft, and is not used by us for anything else.

4. Games uploaded by the OldenEra Companion

The OldenEra Companion is a desktop app we publish. It can read the log file the game writes on your computer and, once a game has ended, the autosaves the game wrote of it, and only if you turn on Upload finished games in its settings, after a window that shows exactly what is sent, it uploads a record of each online game you finish. It does so after the game has ended, never during it.

A record holds the game (match id, time, game version, mode, template, map seed, length, result), both players' in-game names and game account ids, their factions, heroes and bans, and both sides' game as your log saw it: buildings, resources, hero levels, skills and artifacts, objects visited, rewards, fights, the opponent's creature purchases and connection quality; and, where the companion found the game's autosaves, both sides' laws and each hero's level, primary stats and army each morning. It also carries a one-way hash of your Steam id, so that a later sign-in with Steam can show the uploads are yours. The log itself, the save files, your Windows user name and your Steam id are never sent.

We keep game account ids and the Steam hash only as keyed hashes: they recognise a player across renames without revealing the account. Your companion gets a random key that identifies the install; we keep only a hash of it.

What is published. Each uploaded game becomes a public match report: both players' in-game names, factions, heroes and result, and both sides' game as described above. A game reported by one player only is labelled as such. Every player who appears in an uploaded game gets a public profile under their in-game name, whoever uploaded the game: their companion games, heroes, factions and templates played, win rates, and the names they played under before. Hero, skill and template statistics are computed over all uploaded games and never show any one player.

A record describes your opponent's game as well as yours, because the game's log and its autosaves hold both sides. We process and publish an opponent's in-game name and game on the same basis as the ladder (section 3): our legitimate interest in community statistics about a public, competitive game, which we believe players expect of ranked play.

Your controls.Sign in with Steam on your games page to claim your profile. Steam tells us your Steam id and nothing else; we keep only a keyed hash of it, and it matches the hash your companion's uploads carry. A claimed profile can be made private, which removes your companion games from your profile and shows your side of every match report only as your opponent saw it in the game (name, faction, hero, result); your former names can be hidden; and every report made from your account can be deleted. Private profiles still count in the statistics; deleted reports do not.

Records are kept until they are deleted. You can delete everything your companion uploaded, at once, from the companion's settings or from your games page; a game your opponent uploaded too stays, as their report. If you appear in a game someone else uploaded and want it removed, or you play on Epic and cannot sign in with Steam, use the removal request form or write to contact@oldenera.gg; we will act on every reasonable request. A granted request erases your name and your side of every uploaded game, and keeps them out of games uploaded later.

5. Who processes data on our behalf

The Site runs on infrastructure provided by third parties that process data under our instructions: Vercel (hosting, content delivery, analytics and file storage), Neon (database), Upstash (rate-limit counters) and Anthropic (the language model behind the Meta Pulse). Some of these providers operate outside the European Economic Area; where they do, transfers rely on their standard contractual safeguards.

6. Email

If you write to us, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to answer it and to keep a record of corrections and removals we have made.

7. Links to other sites

Pages may link to other websites — the game's store page, community servers, video platforms. Their privacy practices are their own.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to our processing it, or to complain to a supervisory authority. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these rights come from the GDPR. To exercise any of them, email contact@oldenera.gg.

9. Children

The Site is not directed at children and knowingly collects no information about them. It has no accounts of its own, and no way to submit information other than email, the companion's uploads and a Steam sign-in.

10. Changes

We will update this page when the Site starts or stops doing something it describes, and change the date at the top. The Terms of Service govern your use of the Site.
