Olden Era Battle Sites: See Every Guard and Reward Before You Fight
By OldenEra.gg Staff · Updated
Every battle site on the Olden Era adventure map is a gamble the game only half explains. Its tooltip names the site and the kinds of reward behind the guard, and stops there: not which creatures guard it, not how many, not how much gold. The OldenEra Companion fills that gap while you play. Point at the site and its card opens with every roll the site can have, each with its guard, the guard's power and the exact reward, and the battlefield the fight is played on.
New to the companion? Start with the setup guide. This one assumes it is installed and hover mode is on.
What the tooltip tells you, and what it leaves out
"Gives a valuable artifact, some Gold, or resources after defeating its guard." It is accurate, and it is all the game says. When you are deciding whether to send your main hero into the tower on day three, you need the numbers behind those words: how big the guard can be, what it is made of, and what you actually get for beating it.
Reading a battle site card
The first line says what kind of site it is and how many set-ups it has: here, a treasure site with four rolls. When the map is generated, the site gets one of them. Nothing on the map tells you which, so the card lists them all, each with:
- Its chance: 30%, 30%, 25% and 15% for the Abandoned Mansion.
- The guard: how many creatures in how many stacks, every stack with its creature and count, and the guard's total power.
- The reward: gold, resources and artifacts by rarity.
So the Abandoned Mansion is, at best, 2,000 gold behind 95 creatures in three stacks (power 2,815), and at worst 301 creatures in seven stacks (power 15,430) for 5,000 gold and a Common artifact. (The power figures follow the creature values of the current build — 0.82.06 raised them; the screenshot above was taken before it.) The worst roll is the one to plan for if you cannot afford to lose the hero.
The counts are the game's own at Hard (100%) enemy strength; a map with a different Enemy Strength setting scales every stack, as the card's footnote says.
See the battlefield before you commit
Hover over a roll and the card opens its battlefield: where each guard stack stands, the hexes you deploy on (gold) and which stacks shoot. Point at a stack on the grid for its creature, stats and abilities, its stack health and damage, and the hexes it reaches on its first turn. A guard that comes down both flanks while you start in the middle is a very different fight from a single line of enemies in front of you, and this is where you see it before it happens.
Creature cards for neutral stacks
Point at a neutral stack, or any creature's dialog, and its card shows health, damage, Attack, Defense, initiative and speed, then its abilities as the game describes them. The Groll above can jump four hexes to hit everything around where it lands, and throws a rock that stuns its target for a round. That is worth knowing before you park your shooters next to it.
Work out the fight on the site
The card tells you what you are up against; the battle calculator on OldenEra.gg tells you what it costs. Put one of your stacks against a guard stack from the card, at the counts the card gives, and it shows the exact damage, the kills and the retaliation coming back. Add your hero to your side for its Attack and Defense, and its spells and artifacts if you want them.
Cards that open by themselves
With Read the game's log on (see the setup guide), a battle site's or an artifact's card opens when your hero walks into it, so you see what you are fighting even if you clicked straight through the tooltip.
After the game, the report in the companion's game history also estimates how many creatures each neutral stack you fought held. The game's log records a stack's power, not its size, so the report works it out for each form the stack could have been. The match history guide shows where.
Four habits that save armies
- Plan for the worst roll. If the site's last roll would cost you your hero, come back a day later or with more troops.
- Check the formation for flankers. Guard stacks that start beside your deployment hexes reach your shooters on turn one.
- Know which stack hurts most. Point at each guard stack on the battlefield: its stack damage tells you which one to kill first, and its stack health how many hits that will take.
- Weigh the reward against the losses. A Common artifact and 2,500 gold is not worth what a Rare artifact is. The card puts guard and reward side by side, so the trade is in front of you.
Battle sites on the full site
Every battle site has its own page in the battle site database, such as the Abandoned Mansion or the Black Tower, with the same rolls, a larger battlefield and every guard stack's details. Each card's Open on oldenera.gg link opens that full page, and the creature database has every creature you will meet in a guard.
FAQ
Does the companion know which roll my site has?
No. The card lists every roll the site can have with its chance. Which one your map generated is not something the companion sees.
Are the guard sizes exact?
They are the game's own numbers at Hard (100%) enemy strength. A map with a different Enemy Strength setting scales every stack up or down.
Does it cover every battle site?
Yes: every battle site in the game's data has a card, 27 in the current build. The battle site database lists them all.
Can I look up a battle site without the game running?
Yes. Type its name into the companion's search page (Alt+H), or open the web companion on your phone.
