The Ladder Has Reset — and Factions Are Finally on the Record

By OldenEra.gg Staff · Updated

Every Olden Era ladder started over on 30 September. Ratings went back to 1000, records went back to 0–0, and — the part we have been waiting for — the game began writing both players' factions into every match it records. For the first time, the ladder can tell you not just who won, but what they won with.

We have spent the day rebuilding the site around that. Here is what changed.

The six factions now on the record: Temple, Necropolis, Dungeon, Grove, Hive and Schism.
## A clean slate

The reset did not happen all at once: players went through it one by one between roughly 12:30 and 16:00 Moscow time on 30 September. From the moment the window opened, the old season's ratings, win–loss records and ranks no longer mean anything for the new one, so the public site now shows only the current season:

  • Boards, matches and rank movements start at 12:00 Moscow time on 30 September. A player who is 5–0 this season reads 5–0, not their August record.
  • Streaks, recent form and rank charts begin with the new season.
  • The first board of the season shows no movement. With nothing a day older to compare against, everyone would otherwise have worn a NEW badge — that is the start of a season, not a wave of new players.
  • Nothing was deleted. Every game from the previous season is still on file; it just no longer mixes into this season's numbers.

If your favourite player looks like they "lost" their record, that is the reset, not a bug. Climb back with them on the Classic, Single Hero and Arena ladders.

New: faction meta

The headline feature. Each ladder that records factions now has a Factions tab:

On it you will find:

Section What it tells you
Pick rate How often each faction is played, as a share of every pick on the ladder
Win rate & record Each faction's wins and losses against other factions
Average length How many in-game days that faction's games tend to last
Matchups A faction-vs-faction grid: the row faction's win rate against the column faction, with the number of games behind it
By template Each faction's picks and win rate on the most played map templates — because Temple on one template is not Temple on another

All six factions are tracked — Temple, Necropolis, Dungeon, Grove, Hive and Schism — and every faction name links to its page in the database, so you can go from "Grove is winning" to why in one click.

These numbers are counted per game, from both sides: every game with both factions recorded counts once for the winner's faction and once for the loser's. That is what makes the matchup grid possible — you cannot say who beat whom from one player's view alone.

Reading early numbers responsibly

It is day one of a season, and samples are small. To keep that honest:

  • Win rates from fewer than 10 games are greyed out. They are shown, but they are a hint, not a verdict.
  • Mirror matches are kept out of win rates — a Temple-vs-Temple game says nothing about Temple. A mirror column appears once the ladder has produced one.
  • Arena has no faction tab. The game does not record factions there.
  • A handful of instant "0 day" games come through without factions; they count toward the ladder, but not toward the faction meta.

Check back as the week goes on: the tables fill in with every ladder update, and the matchup grid is where the real story of this season will be told.

New: factions on player profiles

Every player profile now has a Factions card with two lists:

  • Win rate by faction — how the player does with each faction they have played this season.
  • Record against — how they do against each faction they have faced.

Want to know whether the rank-one player is a Dungeon specialist, or who has quietly figured out the Hive matchup? It is right there. Open any name on the leaderboard to see it.

New: matchups in recent matches

Recent matches now show the pairing — Temple vs Dungeon — right next to the map template, so you can read a player's season at a glance. On phones, each match now folds into two tidy lines (opponent over template and factions, rating over date) instead of pushing the date off the edge of the screen.

Also new in the database: the game's own glyphs

The game database got a visual pass alongside the reset. Prices, rewards and stats now render in the game's own icons:

  • Every price shows the right currency — Alchemical Dust icon Alchemical Dust for artifact and spell upgrades, Insight icon Insight for Insight spells, Law Seal icon Seals for faction laws.
  • Battle-site rewards and in-game text carry resource glyphs, so a reward of Gold icon Gold and Crystals icon Crystals looks the way it does in the game.
  • Stats, factions, spell schools and hero classes wear their in-game icons across units, heroes, spells, artifacts, battle sites and buildings.

Where to start

  1. Open the Classic faction meta and find the most picked faction.
  2. Check its row in the matchup grid — is it popular because it wins, or despite it?
  3. Click through to that faction in the database and see what it brings to the fight.
  4. Then look yourself up on the ladder and see how your own faction record compares.

A new season, a clean board, and — for the first time — real faction data. Good luck on the climb.
